By way of an introduction
Seems a a bit niche no? Of all the foods that could be the subject of a blog, why pancakes? The answer is obviously parenthood. Because what else is worth perfecting from a kid's menu?
Then again, part of me thinks I had long harboured a need to move past the pancakes my high school cooking teacher had left me with:
1 cup of milk
1 cup of flour
one egg
… mix and cook
I knew in my soul that there was more to the story of pancakes.
While my soul may have known it, I did not. I sat down to dull, chewy pancakes for an interim of several years. I fed them shamelessly to any friend or family member who strayed too close to me around breakfast time. It was a grey scale world where pancakes tasted as they tasted and that was that.
After enduring pancakes for too long, the day came that I questioned that recipe. My grocery list became longer and my Saturday mornings gained colour.
Between then and now, life has changed but the routine of Saturday morning pancakes has not. I've learnt a lot but still feel I am near the beginning of my journey towards perfecting the sweet grail of breakfast foods.
